Let's normalize celebrating our wins, okay!? For far too long I've seen people withhold good news out of fear of coming off as bragging, I am one of those people! I usually share good news with close family and friends, but I was never one to share it on social media.
Let's be honest, some people don't want to see you win! That's the reality we live in these days, not everyone is genuinely happy to see you happy.
But today, I want you to celebrate yourself! If you've accomplished something, big or small, celebrate it! No one, but you and God, know how hard you've worked and PRAYED to get to where you are. You deserve to celebrate because the ups and downs, the sleepless nights, and the thoughts of doubts that started to creep in could have been just the thing that made you stop in your tracks and made you quit. But you did not let any of that hold you back!
A few days ago I found out that I received a promotion! To GOD BE THE GLORY! There were many times when I wanted to throw in the towel and give up, but I knew that my hard work would eventually pay off one day, and today is that day, girl!
To think that a few years ago, I was fired from my first "big girl job" and now I'm at my second "big girl job" and I've gotten promoted twice in the past two years! However, this promotion hits different. Last year, I didn't receive my promotion. I was crushed. I was devastated. So many good things were happening in my life during this time last year that a promotion would have been the icing on the cake! But that wasn't the case. I had to sit with that rejection for about 6 months until it was promotion season again.
I worked for that promotion every day. I showed up as my best self, even on my worst day, every single day! I stepped up my game.
I also changed my mindset. I kept telling myself that even if this promotion falls through, again, God is still good. I began to pray over my promotion and allowed God to take control. I also had to constantly remind myself that this promotion will mean more responsibility, so I asked God to prepare me for the next level. Whatever that next level looked like, I was ready!
On days when I would get discouraged, I referred to the sticky notes I had all over my room to remind me that my hard work will pay off one day. Those affirmations were powerful. When I didn't feel like going to work, I was reminded that showing up to work is the first step to my promotion. I had to be intentional about putting in the work!
For four months I waited for the news, and when the day finally came I was extremely nervous! But the moment I found out that I was selected for my promotion I could NOT stop smiling. It felt like a weight had been lifted! All of the stress I endured over the past few months, and I still worked up the strength to put a smile on my face every day is a testament to how good God is! I showed up every day to work and gave it my all!
When I think about where I am now compared to where I started a few years ago, I can't believe it. It's all God's doing. He gave me a vision and I allowed Him to order my steps! When I was fired, He instructed me to do research on women's ministries and I began to outline what a women's ministry would look like. Here we are today, with the ministry God downloaded into me years ago. WON'T HE DO IT!
Me being fired didn't seem like a blessing at the time, but today I am thankful! I'm thankful because I have a testimony to share. Out of that season of rejection, I found my way back to God, and He gave me a vision of a ministry. In 2020, FLOURISHING Ministries was birthed and two years later we are still going strong!
If you’re having a hard time celebrating yourself, here are a few things you can do:
Take a day off: Utilize your PTO and actually enjoy your time off. Give yourself a day to treat yourself, and relax!
Buy yourself a nice gift: Whether you enjoy flowers or chocolates, treat yourself to something nice! You deserve to splurge on yourself every once in a while, why not today?
Enjoy a spa day: Treat yourself to a spa day at a place you've always been wanting to visit! Make the appointment and enjoy a full day of pampering.
Treat yourself to dinner: Put on your favorite outfit and enjoy a meal at your favorite restaurant! Nothing is more rewarding than when you end the night with a delicious meal, especially one that you did not have to cook!
Enjoy a night in: You can have a solo date night in your own home! You can order takeout and snuggle up to your favorite feel-good movie, and you can’t forget the popcorn!
If you couldn’t tell already, photoshoots are one of my favorite things to do for myself! I enjoy the entire process of putting my makeup on, getting a cute outfit together, and setting up my fun photoshoot area…I JUST LOVE IT
!
Remember that celebrating your wins is a good thing, and please don’t let anyone tell you otherwise! Also, allow others to celebrate you as well! You can express your wins and still remain humble. God gave us these experiences to share and enjoy with others! Imagine if we kept everything to ourselves that God has done in our lives? How will others know how good He is? Think about that, sis!
You have a purpose, and you have a reason to celebrate! Celebrate yourself today sis, you deserve it!
