On a typical day my routine looks like this: wake up, go to work, come home, and depending on the day, show up for my small group meeting. But I’m starting to realize that I might be neglecting myself and others with my routine.
Adding small things to your routine can boost your mood and energy levels. For example, maybe instead of me going straight home maybe I can stop by a coffee shop. A change of scenery is good for the soul.
As I begin to incorporate more habits into my routine, I’m noticing that I’m more present. I’m more aware of what’s going on around me and in the lives of my loved ones.
Here are a few habits to add to your routine:
➡ Exercise - it’s important to remain active. Get your heart rate going by doing one of your favorite exercises. You’ll feel great after doing it.
➡ Check-in on your friends - Check in on those friends you haven’t heard from in a while! Check-in on your strong friends! Check-in on the friends you talk to every day, ask them how they’re doing. We all need to be asked how we’re doing every once in a while.
➡ Practice self-care - Please take care of yourself. If you need a break, take one! Treat yourself to something nice just as a pick me up. Never neglect yourself, the world needs you!
➡ Read your Bible - Reading your Word should a habit you incorporate into your routine daily. Reading God’s word uplifts your spirit and provides insight into so many situations. You need your daily dose of the Word sis!
➡ Go for a walk - Even if it’s just for a few minutes, getting outside of the four walls in your house is essential for your mental health.
➡ Eat a healthy snack - it’s easy to fall into the routine of popping a quick meal into the microwave, but switch it up a bit! Try cooking yourself a healthy meal, your body will thank you! (I’m all for a Hot Pocket, but let’s save that for the weekend, shall we.)
➡ Call a friend or family member - More than ever human interaction is necessary! Nothing says “You were on my mind” more than a phone call. They will appreciate you for it!
There are so many things that you can add to your routine that would improve your quality of life. The key to it all is actually doing it.
